Tavistock 2

St Austell 3

THE Lambs had a disastrous start to the game, finding themselves two goals down after ten minutes from which they never really recovered.

A poor pass out of defence was intercepted by Phil Lafferty, who got past the challenge of Chris Short to pick his spot from six yards. Short was then judged to have fouled James Gorst on the edge of the area for Tom Sundercombe to score from the spot and leave the Lambs a mountain to climb.

Paul Smith saw his goalbound effort headed away before the Lambs got a goal back after 20 minutes. James Steer?s run down the wing let in Tom Barwell whose shot was only parried by keeper Penhaligan and Sean Cann was on hand at the far post to volley it home.

Nick Campbell got through on goal only to shoot wide before the visitors found themselves down to ten men just before the interval when Lafferty reacted angrily to John Hadjiyianni?s challenge on Andy Baker.

A man less did not seem to affect the visitors and after Darren Babb?s shot hit Penhaligan in the face and then a post ten minutes into the second half the visitors responded.

Sundercombe cleared from defence to Gorst on the wing and kept on running to receive the ball in the Lambs? area to shoot low past Andy Meeds.

The Lambs kept plugging away but it was not until the 86th minute before they scored their second. Smith?s cross was headed on by substitute Dave Symons and Barwell shot low across the area for Hadjiyianni to score with a diving header.

The Lambs almost snatched a point right on full-time but Babb?s header from a Barwell corner went over the top of the bar.

A disappointing defeat for the Lambs who could not take advantage of the extra man for the whole of the second half.
