Jewson South Western League
Wadebridge 1
Tavistock 2
THE Lambs remained unchanged from last week's match with Steve Shaw starting in central defence in place of the injured Darren Babb. Tavistock almost took the lead in the opening minutes when Tony Cusack's snap shot went straight to the keeper from Andy Wright's corner.
The game was halted after only eight minutes when the Bridgers' new signing Derek Thompson suffered a broken leg in a fair tackle with Shaw. Play resumed for just five minutes but the Lambs took advantage of the situation to open the scoring. Dean Tongue fired in a shot after Wright's corner was only half cleared for the perfectly placed Lee Cansfield to stab it home from eight yards.
The air ambulance arrived and play was held up for a further 25 minutes. It became obvious the game would be in danger of not being completed and in the pause five minutes was taken off each half with a short interval.
It was the turn of the home side to take advantage on the resumption to equalise as Thompson's replacement, Mike Retter, was sent clear to shoot over Andy Meeds.
It looked like a penalty for the Lambs when Cansfield appeared to be upended before they took the lead again three minutes prior to the break. Wright's corner went across the goal and Tongue sent it back high into the area under the crossbar. There was a scramble for the ball and John Gosling got the touch to send it over the line.
The second half saw the Lambs looking for the comfort of a two-goal cushion and had an appeal for a penalty turned down. The home side then had another set-back when they lost the services of ex-Lambs U18s player Lee Ireland for a second booking.
The Lambs could not take full advantage of the extra man but mounted many attacks. Wright volleyed over after Mark Wall crossed for him. George Pitts came on for Tongue and with a little more composure could have scored when he worked himself clear on goal. Wright had a similar chance to his first when Craig Hodge provided the centre before the referee blew for time as the light was fading fast.
Three more points for the Lambs that keeps them in the top half sharing 22 points with Holsworthy, Torpoint and Penzance.
