FA Vase 4 fourth round Deal Town (Kent) 2 Tavistock 4 THE Lambs continued their interest in this national cup competition with this victory over opponents from a higher league in the pyramid system. They got off to the perfect start to take the lead in the second minute when James Steer?s throw in found Mark Conday on the edge of the Deal area to turn and send in a shot onto the bottom corner. They gave themselves a two-goal cushion as Will Stringer challenged the keeper for Chris Menhinick?s free kick with the ball falling nicely for Steer to head home. Paul Cowling replaced the injured Conday minutes into the second half but the game turned dramatically between the 49th and 56th minutes with the home side getting back on level terms. First John Utterton?s overhead kick caught Andy Meeds rooted to the spot and was then brought down in the area for Dave Bathgate to score from the spot. Tavistock had to sustain a large period of pressure from the home side after their goals and silenced a vociferous crowd five minutes from time when Cowling burst through the home defence ? his fierce drive could only be parried by Rob Lindley for Dave Hallett following up to shoot home under the keeper. A minute later victory was ensured with a fourth goal and passage into the next round when John Hadjiyianni got his shot away for the keeper to block, but he regained possession to slip the ball to Stringer to slot home. The Lambs could have piled on the agony for the home side but the woodwork came to their rescue on two occasions with Cowling?s effort hitting a post and rolling along the line and Lee Ireland seeing a similar effort do exactly the same. The draw for the next round did not favour Tavistock with a home tie - they will have to make the 740-mile round trip to North Yorkshire to face Pickering Town from the Northern Counties East League Premier. Tavistock will be travelling up on the Friday with an overnight stop in York. Travelling and accommodation details have yet to be finalised. It could well be two nights away. There will be room on the coach for approimately 25 to 30 spectators. Full details later. Carlsberg South Western League St Austell 0 Tavistock 6 THE Lambs returned to league duty and coasted to victory. They took the lead in the fourth minute when John Hadjiyianni was held in the area for Will Stringer to slot home from the spot. It was 2-0 on 15 minutes when a sweeping move out of defence saw Shane Krac backheel the ball out wide on the left to Chris Menhinick to send in a low cross for Hadjiyianni to side foot low across the face of the goal. The first chance for the home side came on 20 minutes from a breakaway but Sam Davey shot weakly at Andy Meeds. Tavistock?s third came when a good ball from Mike Arscott saw Conday collect. Despite losing possession he regained it to slip past two defenders before shooting over May for a fine goal. Minutes later Conday was fouled in the area but this time May guessed right to tip Stringer?s spot kick around the post. The Lambs continued their dominance in the second half. Hadjiyianni avoided two defenders to get his shot away. The Lambs got their fifth with Will Stringer heading home at the far post from John Morris?s cross. Conday hit a post and James Steer went close before the home side had a chance to open their account, but Adam Carter shot over when well placed. With four minutes left, Steer laid the ball off for Stringer who set up sub Lee Ireland to smash home from close range. l Fixtures ? Boxing Day, away to Launceston, 11.30am kick-off.
