Tavistock AFC 3

Launceston 1

THE Lambs gained all three points from this entertaining local derby. The team showed a much more positive approach to the game, which resulted in a very good result.

The home team got off to a flying start and immediately put pressure on the visitors defence. Their early superiority was rewarded in the fourth minute when Dan Pethick broke into the penalty area and squared a superb ball back from the dead ball line, across the six yard area for Ben Davies to force home from three yards.

This stirred the visitors into action and ten minutes later Dominic Richardson forced a great save from Andy Meeds to prevent an equaliser. It was then the turn of the visitors goalkeeper to show his ability when Ryan Fice found Pethick in a good position, but his shot was brilliantly turned round the post by Stevenson for a corner.

Launceston had the ball in the net in the 25th minute but the goal was disallowed by the referee for off-side. The game continued to flow from end to end, but in the 33rd minute the Lambs increased their lead when a well directed free-kick from Mike Arscott found Dan Pethick in the area, and his header found the back of the net.

In the 35th minute Martin Sullivan had to be replaced having taken a knock earlier, substitute Ryan Honey was soon in the action, and almost increased the home sides advantage, firing just wide of the target. The score remained 2-0 at the interval.

The visitors played with a lot more urgency in the second half and took the game to the hosts, but the Lambs defence looked more assured than in recent matches, and the visitors found it difficult to break them down as a unit. With Meeds in good form and commanding his area, they found scoring opportunities very limited.

Then with four minute remaining the visitors did score to reduce the arrears, when they broke down the left flank and the cross was slotted home by Tilley.

Almost immediately afterwards a great ball from Hallett put substitute Levi Landricombe free and he calmly lobbed the advancing Stevenson, into the net, to make the game safe for the Lambs. at three goals to one.

This was a good performance by the Lambs.
