THE 20th anniversary of the completion of Roadford Dam across the Wolf Valley, which enabled the creation of Roadford Reservoir, takes place later this month.

Now known locally as Roadford Lake and managed by South West Lakes Trust, the 730-acre water provides amenities for local people and visitors to the area including watersports, trout angling, walks and cyclepaths.

It is also home to the Lakeside Visitor Centre, Café and Function Suite. Less well-known are the valuable conservation projects which support and monitor the population of bats and dormice, and the management of biodiverse habitats such as Culm grassland and ponds.

To mark the anniversary on Sunday September 20, there will be informative and entertaining illustrated talks on the theme of the changing face of the Wolf Valley by Simon Timms, Devon County archaeologist when the dam was created, and Lisa Tame, conservation manager for South West Lakes Trust.

Participants will also be invited to put forward ideas for items to be included in a time capsule to be buried at Roadford next month. The talks start at 2.30pm and end with a light tea served at around 4pm.

Entry to the talks is by ticket only. Tickets are free, but donations are invited on the day towards the creation of a new Celebration Woodland at Roadford. Please call in or contact 01566 784859 for tickets or more information. Ticket numbers are limited, so early booking is recommended.
