Mary Tavy 3

Bodmin Town 4

WITH the new season starting on a gloriously hot day Mary Tavy were looking to break their jinx of losing their opening few matches.

With this being the case over the last four seasons the home side were determined to start brightly under the new management of Lee Piper.

The first 45 minutes seemed to be going to plan as they raced into a 2-0 advantage with goals from Nick Johns and James Coole and several other chances going begging.

However, after the break fortunes began to change. If ever a match was a tale of two halves then this was it. After conceding a sloppy penalty the away team took advantage of the confusion and frustration of the Tavy side and dominated the next 20 minutes, scoring three more goals to lead 4-2.

Even lady luck seemed to abandon the home team as they saw their penalty effort saved by the opposing keeper with fewer than 10 minutes remaining. Alan Grylls pulled one back but it was not enough as Bodmin withheld the final onslaught for a good away win.

Man of the match for Mary Tavy: Ian Hunter.

Referee Chris Hurford controlled the game consistently throughout.
