WHITCHURCH Ladies? cricket team defeated Sandford Ladies on Sunday, gaining revenge for earlier in the season.

Sandford batted first, and met accurate bowling and tight fielding. Only Jane White seemed to be able to hang around, besides Kirsty Rowland (11), and most of the Sandford team fell by the wayside.

Whitchurch?s bowlers excelled. Lisa Butler 6-2-1-9, Amy Hunt 7-0-3-12, Lesley Smith 4-2-1-4, ably assisted by Jo Austin and Laura Armstrong, restricting Sandford to 81-9, Jane White carrying her bat for 31 not out.

Whitchurch batted steadily and reached 55-2 thanks mainly to Lisa Butler (17) and Lesley Smith (33no). Gaynor Pollard?s sprightly 11 was just what was needed, and she was out with just 6 to win.

Smith and Griffin knocked off the remaining runs for Whitchurch?s first win of the season.
