Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 6
Plym Valley 2nds 1
TAVISTOCK consolidated their position at the top of the league with a 6-1 win.
The midfield of Killingbeck, Armstrong and White worked well, feeding the ball to the forwards of McClumpha, Gaspar and Lamb. There were early opportunities for the away side to take the lead but Plym's defence and goalie managed to repel all strikes.
It was quite a time into the half before the away side got the first goal. A good pass into the 'D' by White allowed McClumpha to beat the goalie with a well-taken goal. The away side were awarded numerous penalty corners but it took a while before a well executed routine resulted in Stapleton slotting the ball in right on the post.
Whenever Plym managed to get through into the away side's 25 yard area the defence of Boulle, Evans and Colston easily cleared the ball back up the pitch. The third goal was scored by Armstrong from another penalty corner.
Plym were pretty much stuck in their half as the attacks did not let up. Gawman put in some good crosses and Killingbeck drove the ball in strongly and came close to scoring.
The fourth goal went to McClumpha from open play. The second half should have been a repeat of the first with the away team dominant, but they lost concentration and this allowed Plym to get into the game.
The defending was not so tight and Plym came through fast and strong. Mills-Hicks in goal, who had had little to do in the first half was called into action and made some important saves.
The away side were still attacking strongly and again there were many missed opportunities. Gaspar had a blistering shot denied by the post.
The fifth goal was the result of a superb solo run from Armstrong. She picked up a ball from Boulle in her own 25 yard area and took it straight done the centre of the pitch, evading all tackles, drew the goalie and then dodged back to put the ball into the net. Plym continued to be dangerous on the attack and the away defence were forced to defend some penalty corners.
It was from one of these that Plym pulled a goal back. Gaspar scored the final goal of the match from close range. Tavistock were pleased to come away with a win but will need to keep their concentration for the full 70 minutes next week ,when they play away to Truro.
