Devon League
Tavistock Ladies 7
Okehampton Ladies 1
TAVISTOCK started strongly with most of the play in Okehampton's half.
The first goal came from Kirsty Jones who was playing striker in place of an absent Lisa Curtis.
The midfield of Julie McGowan and Janie Sivyer with Donna Burch and Rachel Stacey on the left wing played outstandingly, taking on players confidently and pushing the ball around to keep it upfield. The second goal came from a right wing run by Burch and a cross which found Jones waiting to put it into the net. Evans was not to be outdone and her fast run up the centre paid off to give her a superb solo effort goal.
Okehampton fought for every ball and were awarded a free kick on the 25 yard line. The shot was on target but saved by the Tavistock keeper.
Shortly before half-time Okehampton broke through again and striker faced keeper in a one-to-one which resulted in a collision but no goal.
Play was quickly switched upfield where Burch played through to Sivyer who wiggled her way past three defenders to score her debut goal for Tavistock.
The second half saw Okehampton on the attack — Tavistock went to sleep for a short while and only good defending from Belinda Stephens and Capeling kept them out.
Okehampton's break came when the ball was slotted forward to Lisa White and the Tavistock keeper hesitated expecting to hear a whistle for off side. It didn't come and the shot was a good one, going into the net despite the keeper getting a hand to it.
Okehampton attacked and played good football. However, just before going off injured, Evans managed to put another goal in and shortly after a goalmouth scramble saw Rachel Stacey slotting the ball in to make her debut goal for Tavistock.
Tavistock Ladies remain unbeaten and top of the Devon league, scoring 16 goals in their first two matches.
Lady of the match: Rachel Stacey.
