A SHORTAGE of volunteers for a successful West Devon club has left seven of its members running the whole operation by themselves. Women from the Yelverton branch of the Royal British Legion Women's Section are pleading for ladies from the area to get in contact as the group is in need of new members. The appeal is open to all ladies interested in supporting the much needed work the group does while conflict is occurring around the world — helping to support servicemen and their family members. Meetings are held on the first Thursday of every month except for January and during a break in August. Some of the events in the club's calendar include coffee mornings, raising money for the poppy appeal, a rally in June at Lympstone, a tea dance in June and a fete at Meavy Lane. Maureen Wilkinson, chairman and secretary of the Yelverton branch, said: 'We are in a desperate situation. It is so hard to get people involved – we used to have 20 people at our meetings, now there are seven of us. 'We have a lovely time when we get together. The normal meetings are one hour long and we then have tea and biscuits and a chinwag. 'We would be glad for help on stalls, even if they don't join it is still help. We need help desperately especially to help keep the club going. 'Please help us for our ladies are getting older and we need "young blood" to keep us going.' Anyone interested should contact Mrs Wilkinson on 01822 616009 for more information. The club's recent coffee morning at 'Briar Tor' made £126.60. Members expressed thanks to all those who attended.
