Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 1 Liskeard/Looe 2 THE game opened with Tavistock finding it difficult to break the opposition and gain possession of the ball. This resulted in Liskeard working the ball down the pitch and the defensive play of Fiona Dunn, Laura Stapleton and Susannah Boulle being put to the test. Liskeard scored the first goal of the match. Tavistock started to play their own game and fed the ball up to Laura Armstrong who had numerous shots at goal but could not find a way past the keeper. Jo Gaspar worked hard to keep the ball in the ?D? but was always blocked out of any shot on goal as soon as she took possession. Robynne Honey came onto the pitch and worked tirelessly on the wing and made some excellent runs up the pitch in order to keep the ball in play. At half-time the score was 1-0 and Tavistock knew that they had many opportunities to score. The second half saw a change in Tavistock and the team had numerous short corners awarded to them. Although the attacks from these were good with Boulle and Gaspar taking dominant strikes the ball was not going into the back of the net. Dunn had numerous runs up the pitch but unfortunately there was no-one for her to pass the ball to and so was forced to take on the defence. Firth was goal hungry and with Armstrong worked the ball into the ?D?. Honey was making some good strikes into the ?D? but Tavistock appeared to be fighting a losing battle with the opposition?s defence. Stapleton blocked everything that came her way and fed the ball to Wallace or White through strong triangular passes. With only 2 minutes left it looked like Tavistock were going goalless despite all the work in the ?D?. However a strong shot at goal down the side of the post from Boulle equalised the score line. With a minute left, Liskeard were awarded a short corner due to a lifted ball and despite Dunn being out quick and getting a touch on the ball, the ball was slipped to the left and the player lifted in into the top right corner of the goal.
