Whitchurch Wayfarers Ladies v Sandford Ladies

HAVING won the away fixture two weeks ago, Whitchurch were hoping for a repeat performance at home. Alas, this was not to be.

The home side opted to bat first and from the start struggled to put runs on the board. Gillian Northey and Lesley Smith opened for Whitchurch, with Smith being bowled out for one.

Ann Ruddock replaced her but could only score four before she was caught by the wicket keeper. Cathy Griffen made five before being bowled out and Kirsty Gray was caught for one. Northey was finally bowled out for 10 and Jo Austen managed nine runs before she was bowled out, leaving Angela Hunt and Donna Ward not out for 15 and two runs respectively.

The real winner in the runs total was extras as Whitchurch received 59 of them to take their total to 110 – 3.

Sanford's batswomen chased this target with gusto and despite Austen bowling out two wickets and Griffen one they reached 111-3 in the second last over.
