Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 3 Paignton 1st XI 3 WITH the opposition in a higher league, Tavistock were prepared for a tough game and the game opened with Tavistock fighting for possession of the ball. Sarah Barratt and Laura Stapleton were working hard with Judy Miller and Robynne Honey battling for the ball every time it went into the ?D?. It was not long before Miller scored the first goal. Fiona Dunn, Lisa Butler and Laura Stapleton kept strong at the back and with a new formation in place were able to distribute the ball evenly on the pitch. Emma White was battling well in the midfield. The opposition equalised the score line but Tavistock kept their cool and with good play from Jo Gaspar, despite being injured, and Laura Armstrong it was not long before Tavistock were being awarded with short corners. A good ball out from Armstrong to Julia Firth allowed Firth to put Tavistock back in the lead. The score at half-time stood at 2-1 to Tavistock. The second-half saw Tavistock being put under more pressure in defence. Tavistock kept good positional play and worked the ball up the pitch resulting in Armstrong scoring the third goal for Tavistock. Paignton were quick to fight back and scored two good goals quite soon after this. Both teams were then forced to their limits and had to try to think of new tactics to outwit the opposition. The final score was a well deserved 3-3 draw for Tavistock who were pleased with their overall performance and this score line for a pre-season match.
