A WOMAN from Walkhampton will this year embark on a seven-day trek through Romania in order to raise money for World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). Krista Linnen, 28, will be spending her time trekking approximately 60km through the Carpathian Mountains. She needs to raise a minimum of £1,700 for the charity before she goes on September 22. The charity is at present working to provide a sanctuary for European brown bears who have been made tourist attractions living in cages outside restaurants. She said: 'I have been a member of WSPA for a long time now and I thought, why don't I do more than give £5 a month? And as I love walking I decided to do this. 'Most of these beautiful creatures are taken from their mothers in the wild, who are often brutally killed as they try to defend their young. The thought that I can go and see the bears in the sanctuaries on my last day of the trek is amazing.' Krista is appealing for anyone who would like to make a donation to contact her on 07789 513043 or e-mail her on [email protected]">[email protected] l Krista is pictured left, in training for her walk.
