THERE is a chance to catch a shooting star with a guided viewing of the Perseid meteor shower on Kit Hill near Callington on Wednesday August 12.

Organised by Cornwall Council and Callington Space Centre, the evening will begin at the Louis Café with a talk about the Perseids by local astronomers.

After the talk, weather permitting, the session will move to the summit of Kit Hill where there will be telescopes available for star gazing.

Experts from Callington Space Centre will also lead a seated star walk viewing the exciting things visible in the night sky on a summer's evening.

The event starts at 9pm at the Louis Café and is expected to finish at around 3am. The evening is open to adults only and costs £5 per head, which includes tea and cake.  There is also an optional £5 buffet before the event at the Louis Café.

Star gazers will need to dress warmly and should bring a blanket, a folding chair, binoculars or a telescope, a torch and a hot drink.

Places for both the event and the buffet are limited and must be booked in advance by ringing 01872 323468.
