THIS result keeps North Tawton top, after the chasing pack had closed the gap. Keith Steward stepped into goal to take ever from the injured Adrian Rice.
The game was hard fought, with many players probably still feeling the effect of some of the challenges.
Newtown took the lead midway through the first half to put Tawton on the back-foot.
But Tawton showed character and pulled one back from a lovely free kick from Ian King.
Dean Rice was unlucky just before half-time with the visiting keeper making a good save to keep him out.
The pitch started to cut up badly in the middle of the park, making life hard work for the central midfield players.
Ashley Arscott found himself with room down the left flank. He cut inside and the Newtown number five made no attempt for the ball and brought Arscott crashing to the ground inside the penalty area.
Ian King stepped up and saw the penalty saved. It makes four penalties missed on the trot by Tawton.
The winner came ten minutes from time. The ball broke loose from a deflection and Ian King side-footed it into the back of the net to send the home fans wild.

TAWTON played a controlling game and had more than enough chances of scoring.
On the half-hour Richard Keast broke from the left wing then passed two defenders to slip home Tawton?s first.
A miss-kick in defence put Bow on level pegging.
Tawton carried on creating chances and two skilful goals by Bragg put them 3-1 at half-time.
In the second half Tawton dominated and went out looking to kill the game off. A blinding pass went from Simple to Keast who played on Fisher. He took the ball around the keeper to score Tawton?s fourth.
Tawton carried on making good movement around the pitch which led to their fifth ? a peach of a pass by Simple put Sweb on a one-to-one with the keeper and he made no mistake in hitting the target.
