THE children from Kes Tor class at Okehampton Primary School took a trip to Waitrose last week, as part of a project learning about the negative effects plastic has on marine wildlife.

The children have already taken part in a community litter pick and wrote to Okehampton mayor Cllr the Rev Mike Davies to ask what he could do to help decrease the amount of plastic bags and rubbish in the town.

While at Waitrose, they met the mayor and handed out 'bags for life' to customers. Their work on the project is also on display in the store.

Kes Tor class teacher Mrs Emma Goodwin said: 'Our current journey with Waitrose started when Kes Tor looked at sustainability issues in the worlds' oceans.  

'Upon seeing images of plastic "islands" and plastic waste, the children decided that they wanted to do something to make a difference.  

'They truly are inspiring adults of the future and I am so super proud of  their hard work, commitment and passion.'
