THE British Gas ASA national county team swimming championships were held on Sunday at Ponds Forge ISC, Sheffield with Kelly College swimmers prominent.
The championships were divided into division one and two creating a great day of competition, inspired by Olympians and Commonwealth medallists Ross Davenport and Sarah Price, who were deck hosts for the day.
Devon County were in division one and four Kelly College Swim Squad members were chosen to represent Devon. The youngest from Kelly Swimming was Sophie Hastings who competed in the girls 12/13 years 100m freestyle coming home in 12th.
Molly Redford, in the 14/15 years girls 100m freestyle, came in 10th in a personal best time of 59.14 — a new Kelly age group record.
Elliot Boon, in the 14/15 boys, was 13th in his individual 100m freestyle in a time of 55.27.
Mark Sammut, in the 16/17 year age group, posted personal best times in the 100m freestyle (54.79), where he was 19th, and the 100m fly (59.29), where he was 12th.
Devon County ASA scored 200 points overall to come 19th making them one of the four teams relegated to division two for next year.
Another Kelly Swim Squad swimmer, Lucy Sanderson, was competing for Surrey in the Girls 16/17 years 100m fly, where she was seventh with a time of 63.90, creating a new Kelly age group record.
In division two, the college had a representative competing for Scotland East — Blaine Small. Blaine was third in the 100m fly for 16/17 year old girls helping Scotland East to promotion to division one.
n KELLY COLLEGE swimmers got off to a great start to the season at the City of Plymouth Swimming Galas, breaking 33 competition records, winning 133 medals and setting more than 157 new personal best performance times.
Kelly's top male swimmer was Matthew Courtis, aged 15, who won a straight seven gold medals in his age category and also set six new City of Plymouth records. Kelly's top female Victoria Callow, 13, who won 11 medals - six of them gold.
Other Kelly swimmers who were in record breaking form were Chloe Barrow, Cameron Carpenter-Warren, Felix Davies, Ella Ellis, Sophie Hastings, Oliver Lake, Victoria Moore, Millie Murdoch, Brogan Pennington, Ellen Riis-White, Chelsey Taylor, Joe Voller and Erin Walsh.
Representing Kelly Prep School were 10-year-olds Victoria Moore, Nathan Linden, Jack Morris and Luke Thornton, and 9-year-old Tom Brew. Jessamy achieved two personal best times and one medal. Victoria achieved ten personal best times and four medals. Nathan achieved five personal best times and won two medals. Jack earned two personal best times and Luke achieved three personal best times. Tom achieved five personal best times and won six medals.
