Kelly College 1st XV 29

Truro School 1st XV 10

TRURO, Cornwall's top schools side, were brushed away in emphatic style. Kelly made a clear statement of intent as the first kick-off was moved wide to the back line.

Truro played a more conservative game, preferring to keep the ball tight with drives round the fringes and kicks over the top. However, Kelly faced them on the gain line and drove them back.

The forwards rucked with hunger, foraged with fire and provided a steady stream of quality possession. Five glorious tries followed to take Kelly to a commanding 29-3 lead.

The first score came from right wing Green who beat three defenders before gliding in under the posts. Seven minutes later, Mark Slee rounded off another fine handling movement to score in the corner after completing his trademark dummy to thin air, stopping the Cornish defenders in their tracks.

Lock Andrew Barwick played his most commanding game in Kelly colours. He was abrasive and powerful, dominating the lineout and adding solidity to the scrum. However, it was again open side flanker Mark Bloxham who stood out, impressing with his pace power. Captain Pitts then added an outstanding hat-trick of tries, the best of which came ten minutes into the second half. Green added two conversions, and although Truro claimed a consolation try at the end, it did little to spoil the Kelly party.
