THERE were some outstanding performances by Kelly College swimmers at the Devon County ASA Development Galas in Kingsbridge. A total of 12 medals were won — five gold, six silver and one bronze. Out of 30 events, the Kelly swimmers achieved 28 personal best times.
The medalists were: Harry Wardle (12) with three gold medals in 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle and 200m backstroke, two silver medals in 200m breaststroke and 400m freestyle. All were personal bests.
Hannah Morris (13) with a gold in the 200m breaststroke and two silver medals in the 100m backstroke and 100m fly, both of which were personal bests. Toby Stanyer (13) with one gold in 200m backstroke and one bronze in 100m backstroke, with personal bests. Gabrielle Wardle (9) with two silvers in 200m backstroke and 200m breaststroke, both of which were personal bests.
Personal best times were achieved by Carys Twyman (9) with three personal bests. Archie Trevethan (10) with two;. Jacob Staig (10) with three; Mataeo Pearce (11) with two; Jack Morris (11) with three and Toby Stanyer (13) with two pbs.
The Kelly swimmers now look forward to the next round of galas in July to be held at the Exe Valley Leisure Centre in Tiverton.
n Kelly College Swim Squad went into the final round of the Cornwall and West Devon League last Sunday on level points with Dinnaton Swimming Club and Newton Abbot SC — the winner would be the overall champion club for 2011.
The Kelly swimmers put up a superb show with 29 wins, 23 personal best times and two new Kelly College records. Kelly proved a formidable force for the other teams and finished on top with 217 points,; second Newton Abbot 151; 3, Truro City 145; 4, Dinnaton 136, 5, Caradon 112. Chloe Barrow broke her own 12 year old Kelly College age group record in the 50m fly and Matthew Henry broke the open 50m backstroke record with his lead off swim in the medley relay.
Kelly Swim Squad members with personal best times are: Chloe Barrow, Thomas Brew, Josh Carnell, Dan Gillard, Matthew Henry, Georgia Jones, Nathan Linden, Will Luckham-Down, Victoria Moore, Brittaney O'Reilly, Erin Walsh and Beth Watmore.
Also taking part and making their mark were Johannis Clifford-Flower, Nadia Edling, Sophie Hastings, Robert Nielsen, Lawrence Oxborough, Molly Redford, Lucy Sanderson, Blaine Small, Ben Staig, Joe Voller, Harry Wardle, Gabrielle Ward, Jacob Staig, Elliot Boon, Emma Watmore, Millie Murdoch, Jonathan Hawley and Victoria Callow.
