Cornwall Junior Cup, 2nd round Gunnislake 2 St Annes Chapel 1 AS you would expect from such a local derby this was a well contested encounter that saw two good teams determined to progress in this cup. Gunnislake had the best opportunities in the opening 15 minutes. Jarryd Kelly was denied by good goalkeeping and Matt Avery failed to convert when well placed. He also had a good header that struck the crossbar. Saints took the lead on 20 minutes with a controversial goal. A Saints player committed a foul but the advantage rule was allowed for Gunnislake, yet it was the visitors who got on to the loose ball to break forward and score. Before the game was restarted the Saints player that committed the foul was booked for the initial infringement. Both sides continued to press but no further goals came before the turnaround as the defences remained on top. The second half saw the end to end play continue. But chances were few and Gunnislake had to wait until 75 minutes to equalise. Nathan Dore was played through and, on the edge of the penalty area, he turned the on-rushing Saints keeper before picking his spot to beat two defenders on the goal line. Minutes later the hosts scored the winning goal. Stuart Wakenshaw played Mark Warwick in and when his cross was only partially cleared it fell for Wakenshaw to send in a perfect ball that Kelly exquisitely headed home. This Saturday sees the first team return to league action in the Duchy Premier when they visit Boscastle. The reserves play Looe reserves in a division five fixture at Gunnislake. These two sides met last Saturday in the Duchy reserve cup with Gunnislake winning 4-3 thanks to two goals from Andy Southcott, and strikes from Gary Smith and youngster Toby Chapman scoring his first senior goal. Both games kick off at 2.30pm.
