Cornwall Junior Cup, 3rd round Altarnun 0 Gunnislake 6 WITH conditions in their favour the hosts started brightly and had the greater share of the play. Gunnislake stood firm and throughout the opening 45 minutes took control of this fixture. Jarryd Kelly produced an excellent 20 yard strike that clipped the top of the crossbar before being denied by a good save. Nathan Dore, on the left wing, was causing Altarnun problems and three times he delivered excellent centres that only needed the finishing touch. The match was still goalless at half time. On 50 minutes Gunnislake broke the deadlock. Under pressure, centre half Paul Heath calmly found Mark Warwick whose long pass went straight to debutant John Styring. Styring turned his defender and exquisitely found the far top corner of the goal from 20 yards. Soon after an incisive Dave Henwood pass caused problems in the Altarnun rearguard and Kelly smashed home from the edge of the penalty area. The strike force of Kelly and Styring each grabbed themselves a second goal before a Dore centre enabled Anthony Underwood to head home from close range. Stand in keeper Matt Avery turned an Altarnun effort on to the post to preserve his team's clean sheet before the scoring was completed when a superb Stef Kelly cross from right on the touchline saw Dore slide in and score at the back post. St Mawgan visit Gunnislake this Saturday in the Duchy Premier, kick off at 2.30 pm. Duchy 5 Gunnislake reserves 4 Delabole reserves 1 GUNNISLAKE reserves started this game as favourites but were given a stern test by the vistors who were in no mood to go down without a fight. Prior to kick off winger Ashley Dobson was involved in an accident but still managed to make it to the game. Exchanges were even as Gunnislake struggled to play the fluent football that has seen them rise to the top of the table. Both sides had chances and a through ball by Adam Brimacombe saw Darren Sambells go clear of the Delabole defence only to be brought down by their keeper. Steve Gaggini took the resultant penalty and to add insult to injury the spot kick was saved. Gunnislake broke the deadlock after 25 minutes through Dobson, who out sprinted the Delabole defence, beat two players and struck the ball past the keeper from 18 yards. Further chances went begging as Gunnislake hit the post twice and Delabole had a goalbound shot cleared off the goal line by Dean Martin. Into the second half and a quick throw by Brimacombe found Joe Pulley making a run into the penalty area; Pulley avoided two challenges before finding the bottom left corner to make it two nil. Sambells was next to make his mark with Brimmacombe flicking on a measured chip by Neil Kinger into his path to score the third. With the game just about over Delabole broke clear of the home defence and a desperate tackle in the penalty area resulted in a penalty for the visitors, which was duly despatched. Deep into injury time Gunnislake were also awarded a penalty kick off when Simon Wakeham was adjudged to have been brought down by the Delabole keeper. Delabole were reduced to ten men as the keeper was sent off and Kinger put the penalty away. Man of the match Ashley Dobson. A special thank you this week to Nigel Doidge for all his support and hardwork. The reserves are without a fixture this week but players are reminded that training is held at Callington School at 8pm on Wednesday evenings.
