YELVERTON Golf Club veterans played in a competition last week with the sun shining on them for just a few minutes. This was welcomed as rain during the last three weeks led to the cancellation of matches against Yelverton Ladies and Stover Golf Club.

The winners of Stableford '3-2-1' were Keith Stokes, Bryan Blaber and Andy Rae with 73 points followed by Mike Ayres, Keith Clench and Jim Rice on 72; third went to Neil Pierce, Roy Kirwan-Taylor and Tony Bowden with 70. There were two 'twos' Steve Bryant and Mike Bates.

Yelverton vets played a home match against Bude Veterans, which was fiercely contested.

Yelverton lost the first two matches, halved the third and won the remaining three. Don Read and Dennis Voisin achieved the best result by winning 5 and 4. Yelverton won the match overall 3½ to 2 ½ .
