A COUPLE from Tavistock who have raised more than £5,300 for many charities over 15 years celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently.

Derek and Marian Hall celebrated with friends of the Tavistock Strollers, a group which Derek has led since 1999.

The couple are keen walkers and each time they organised a walk they gave £1, resulting in a total of £5,359 being raised — which shows how many walks and miles the couple must have covered to raise that amount!

The money has been shared amongst more than 20 charities, including ShelterBox, Air Ambulance and Cancer Research.

As a way to say thank you and to congratulate them on the amount raised and their anniversary, members of Tavistock Strollers surprised the couple with a golden anniversary rose, a bottle of champagne, 50 chocolate coins to represent 50 years of marriage, along with an anniversary poem composed especially for them.
