A YOUNG Bridestowe author and illustrator who has epilepsy invited locals to join her for a cuppa and a slice of cake, all in the name of charity.

Katherine Curtis, aged 12, has written and illustrated her first book, 'Herbie the Horse Goes on Holiday'. On October 18, Katherine held a 'National Tea and Cake Break in Bridestowe Village Hall' to raise funds and awareness for Epilepsy Action, and sell copies of the book. The charity supports people with epilepsy — including the 63,400 children across the UK.

Anna Curtis, Katherine's mother, said: 'The day went well, we got the message across and raised around £40 for the charity, which is the main thing. There has been plenty of support from local people, which is nice. It has made Katherine excited for this Saturday, when we will be at the Mole Avon equine day all day to sell copies of her book.'

Katherine and Anna thank Waitrose, Co-op, Endecotts, Riverside Stores and Fox Coombe Bakehouse for donating cakes for the event.
