TAVISTOCK teenage kart racer Jordan Williams is hoping to lick the opposition after picking up sponsorship from Devon?s largest independent ice-cream manufacturer.
Plympton-based company Tamar Valley Ice Cream Products decided to sponsor Jordan when managing director Colin Marsden heard of his success.
Mr Marsden felt so strongly about supporting a young talent that he funded equipment including the latest specification of kart chassis ? a necessity for competition at national level.
And Jordan has not disappointed ? competing this year in the ABKC Super 1 British National Junior Karting Championship he pulled out all the stops to come first, his first ever National Super 1 win.
The superb performance, executed in round two of the series at Kimbolton circuit in Cambridgeshire, earned Jordan the accolade ?Drive of the Day? in the National Motorsport newspaper.
After the sensational final, Jordan was approached by a talent scout and offered the chance to attend a BMW scholarship shoot-out with a handful of other candidates.
The 13-year-old?s joy was short-lived, however, as on disclosing his age he proved to be a year and a half too young.
Jordan now hopes to sustain his form at the Super 1 championship third round in Scotland at the end of this month ? and bide his time until he turns 15 to take the racing world by storm!
