AN Okehampton student has received a big boost at the end of her two-year course at Plymouth College of Art and Design — she was named Modern Apprentice of the Year at the end of year awards evening last Friday.
Karen Dufty, aged 18, works at Ink Print in Station Road, attending the college on a day-release basis.
Her course covered origination and pre-press work, for which she gained her award.
Karen said: 'I kind of had an idea I might be up for it as they told my boss to come down for the awards. I thought it was a bit suspicious, but I was still surprised when I got it.'
Karen was awarded a trophy and given an engraved plate and certificate to keep.
She did work experience at Ink Print while she was at school and was offered holiday work and then a full time job once she had completed her GCSEs.
'I'm very pleased for Karen,' said Ian Bailey, proprietor of Ink Print.
