Kingsteignton Sunday 3
Chagford Reserves 2
DESPITE the autumnal conditions and a sloping pitch, both sides strove to produce a football match that was entertaining and beneficial for all.
Chagford took a second minute lead as Harvey and Philpott combined on the right flank, the latter crossing to Chris Woof who's sliced shot looped over Luke Potter and into goal.
The action was almost non-stop with the teams creating chances.
Kingsteignton played well across the back and built each attack with patience. Their reward came on 15 minutes, when Justin Lashley glanced home a neat header for a deserved equaliser. The powerful striker proved to be a thorn in Chagford's side.
The visitors stole a goal ten minutes later through a basic error by the home 'keeper, who picked up a throw-in from one of his own men but lobbed the ball to Reeves, for the free-kick. Reeves took it for Ralph to chip the ball over an unprepared Potter.
However the goalkeeper's confidence was boosted as he pulled off some brave saves, to keep his colleagues in the game at half-time.
The second half was five minutes old as a much changed Chagford conceded a second equaliser. Forsey tripped his attacker and Luke Dandy coolly stroked home the resultant penalty. Six minutes later Lashley's powerful drive took a deflection and eluded Vincent in the Chagford goal.
For the rest of the game it became the veteran 'keeper versus the rest as Kingsteignton pressed forward, restricting Chagford to the occassional break-out. Lashley saw another effort clip the wrong side of the post and de Young was twice denied by Vincent.
Scarry and Reeves struggled to find the mix that so benefitted Chagford up front although Potter dived bravely at the former's feet to block his path. Haxton suffered the same agony and Lethbridge powered a header wide as time ticked away. This was a decent work-out for the teams in a well managed by referee Donald Distin, that shows hope for both sides in the coming season.
l CHAGFORD Football Club urgently seek capable and confident goalkeepers aged 16 plus for both their South Devon Football League premier and division five teams.
John Pearce, from the clubs, said: 'Every support will be given by an ambitious club with superb pitches and facilities. Previous applicants need not apply.'
