Chairman?s Cup ? Quarter Finals Tavistock 2nds 5 Bere Alston 4 (AET & Penalties) THIS game finally reached a conclusion after one abandoned match, due to inclement weather, and several last minute postponements. A brisk start from both sides saw a number of early chances created at either end, but within ten minutes it became apparent that Tavistock were taking control of the game with a series of sustained attacks on Bere Alston?s goal. Unfortunately Tavistock were unable to capitalise on their superiority and in the twenty-fifth minute conceded a penalty, going 1-0 down, very much against the run of play. For the last fifteen minutes of the half Tavistock seemed to lose the plot slightly, struggling to maintain the momentum they had built earlier giving the visitors more chances than were really necessary. Tavistock came out for the second half with renewed vigour and within ten minutes were back on level terms with a fine looping header from Neil Talliss, and it seemed only a matter of time before they would add to the score-line. Craig Hodge who had been creating all sorts of problems for the Bere Alston defence throughout, did just that eight minutes later, converting a corner with a powerful header past the keeper. Unfortunately Hodge failed to wrap the game up five minutes from time, when he blasted a Tavistock penalty wide of the goal. A sudden break from the visitors caught the Tavistock defence napping in injury time and gave the visitors a lifeline and a 2-2 score. Both sides were obviously feeling the effects of a hard fought match with a number of players succumbing to cramp in extra-time and neither side able to break the deadlock, sending the match into penalties, and overall a justified win for Tavistock.
