EIGHT pupils from Lew Trenchard School have been learning to sail at Roadford Reservoir.

In the lessons they have learnt to tack, gybe and right a dingy after a capsize.

South West Lakes Trust, who are hosting the training, obtained a grant of nearly £10,000 from the Small Lottery fund, enabling pupils from local schools to enjoy heavily discounted sailing tuition.

PC Kevin Reed, the local Neighbourhood beat officer, helped with the running of the sailing course. Kevin obtained a grant from the High Sheriff's Crimebeat Charity which paid for him to attend a Royal Yachting Association instructors' course.

Devon and Cornwall Police have fully supported this school, community, charity and police partnership.

When the course is completed the pupils will be rewarded with an RYA qualification and prizes donated by Alder Sportswear, Lewdown.
