Kelly College 13 Tavistock College 10 LAST week Kelly College hosted the local derby match against Tavistock College, and it certainly turned out to be a typical local derby ? a highly motivated contest. From the outset Tavistock College set out their intentions by putting great pressure on the Kelly goal line, and defending with terrific endeavour. They were rewarded with a penalty early on to take a deserved 3 ? 0 lead. Kelly then started to run the ball wide. This, however, played into Tavistock?s favour, and the ball was intercepted in their own half for their centre to run 60 metres to score under the Kelly posts. With an easy conversion the away team took a 10 ? 0 lead at the interval. With their two lineout jumpers injured, Kelly failed to dominate that area of the game and had to keep the ball alive at every opportunity. They continued to spread the play across the field and dominated territory in the second half. James Falvey came away with an early penalty for Kelly to narrow the score to 10-3. Constant pressure saw centre, Jack Newton, cross the Tavistock line under the posts after a fluid passage of play. At 10 ? 10 with minutes to go, a draw may have been a fair conclusion to the afternoon, but after Kelly were turned down for another try when Tom Wylie crossed the line, they eventually earned a penalty to win the match 13-10.
