DESPITE the poor weather the penultimate meeting of the Westward League was held on Sunday at Bovey Tracey. This is normally one of the more popular venues in the league as it involves a genuine and challenging cross-country course, but the number of runners was however inevitably low due to the poor weather conditions.
Tavistock Athletic Club runners managed to field a good turn-out with 12 junior runners representing the club.
In the first race of the day the U17s were running with the senior ladies. The Tavistock U17 men were missing a number of the regular runners but such is the strength of this group that the three athletes who did compete all gained invaluable points for the team position.
The first Tavistock runner home was Owen Drage who registered his best ever position finishing in a strong overall 20th place. Reuben Grice was the next Tavistock runner home in 26th place followed by Matt McNamara-Waddington finishing in 27th place. In the U17s ladies race Rebecca Windemer was again the sole Tavistock runner but also ran a strong race to finish in an overall 24th position.
There was a good turnout for Tavistock in the U13s boys' race with five juniors representing the club. Harrison Baker was the first Tavistock runner to finish in a creditable sixth place followed by Seth McNamara-Waddington who finished in a season's best place in 12th with James Best in 13th. Peter Jarman was in 20th place and Arthur Andrews 21st.
In the U15 girls' race Claire Fraser and Sarah Hornby were representing Tavistock. Both girls ran well with Claire coming home in third followed by Sarah Hornby in fourth, which was a season's best place.
In the final race of the day Sam Lloyd was the only Tavistock U15 boy and ran with real determination to finish in a good 16th place.
