TAVISTOCK Athletic Club held its annual trophy presentation on Saturday evening.
Mayor of Tavistock, Mrs Judith Williams, presented trophies to junior and senior members of the club, for the 1999/2000 winter season and last summer.
Robin Musgrave, club chairman, spoke of the club's success over 12 months and the achievements particularly of the junior members.
In the winter season the club competed in the Devon sportshall league and achieved good results through strong attendance and excellent individual results.
At the end of the league, in their age group, Robynne Honey finished in second place in the soft javelin with Grace Perry in third place in the 2-lap event, and third in the 1-lap hurdles. Sarah Guy was first in the soft Javelin and third in the 2-lap hurdles. Kayleigh Wonnacott finished third in the soft javelin,with Jimmy Hubbard third in the vertical jump and Adam Waddle third in the 2-lap, third in the 2-lap hurdles and third in the vertical jump.
Liam Mills was first in the standing triple jump leading to the Under 10 girls team and Under 11 girls both finishing in overall second place.
The excellent results led to gold, silver and bronze medals being won at the county championships and Lizzie Bentley, Kathryn Dolton, Sarah Guy, Emma Passmore, Grace Perry, Kayleigh Wonnacott, Jimmy Hubbard and Adam Waddle all representing Devon at a meeting in January.
At cross-country the club finished the Devon mini-league in overall fifth place in the U11 girls' event, fourth in the U11 boys', third in the U13 girls', second in the U10 boys' and the winners in the U10 girls' event.
Shaun Hewitt finished in third place in the U15 boys' event. In the U11 girls' Kathryn Dolton finished in third place, with Sarah Guy in second place and Emma Passmore in first place.
In the Westward League the club also had some great individual results with Rob Jinman just missing the bronze medal position in the U15 boys' competition.
In the seniors' event Tim Powell won the male vet 60 league and Jo Kelsey achieved outstanding results winning the senior ladies' race at the last two meetings of the league which put her in overall third place at the end of the season.
This was the first time in the history of the club that a Tavistock Athlete has won a Westward League race. Both Jo Kelsey and Rob Jinman went on to represent the county with Jo also winning the bronze medal at the county championships.
In the road race and off-road race events the club was again affected with many seniors suffering from injuries but club members competed at many varied events including the Boston marathon and the Man v Horse race held in south Wales.
The club was also well represented in the London marathon with Steve Groombridge finishing in 252nd place — out of 30,000-plus runners.
In the summer the club competed in the Devon League for the first time and achieved some outstanding results, with Sarah Barratt winning the U10 girls' event and Sarah Lucas in second place.
Nathan Wonnacott, competing for the first time, did well to finish in second place in the U10 boys' event.
In the U11 boys' event Jimmy Hubbard finished in third place with Harry Wyatt in fifth place, Adam Roberts in sixth and Matthew Drage in seventh.
