Sidmouth U14s 25

North Okes U14s 18

THIS was a closely contested match with Josh Bickley scoring the first try for the Okes with a catch at full back and dodging run. Sidmouth quickly responded with a couple of scores.

Okehampton worked well and defended fiercely as a team.

At half time they were still in touch with Billy Searle kicking a penalty. Their discipline was good.

In the second half Luke Simmons scored a good try out wide for the visitors. This was followed by another score from Sidmouth.

North Okes heads dropped briefly but then they scored again through Josh Bickley following a lot of hard work from the forwards, Patrick Webb, Jack Williams and Callum Pillivant doing the hard miles with numerous pick and drives.

Sidmouth rounded off the match with another try. Neither side managed to convert any of their tries.

TAVISTOCK U12s faced stiff opposition last Sunday, against two of the stronger local sides.

In the first half Kingsbridge played a tough, physical game.

Most of the action came in the first half, with Tavistock team captain Charlie showing his pace with three tries in the first 15 minutes, two converted by Matt. Kingsbridge scored an excellent try after a bold interception, and after some impressive handling again outpaced the Tavistock defence.

Alec played an excellent game for Tavistock, his hard work all through the half was rewarded with a try before half time, converted by Christian. Both teams got a bit bogged down in the second half, neither side conceding any more points.

Crediton U12s 7

THIS was another physical game, with the Tavistock boys offloading well, and great tries from Angus converted by Matt, and Tom converted by himself.

Tavistock's tackling in the first half lacked conviction, and Crediton were unlucky not to score on a couple of occasions.

An intercepted pass in the second half let them through for a try. Tavistock scored twice more although the game was closer than the score suggests, and provided great entertainment for the families and supporters.

Crediton U11s 0

Tavistock bounced back from last week's rare defeat and immediately took the game to Crediton. Straight running by Bernie, Laurence and Johannis followed by good rucking set up a move where the ball was passed all the way down the line to Will P who scored in the corner.

The forwards, moving swiftly to the breakdowns, dominated the loose and continually recycled the ball for the backs. Powerful driving by Will G and Callum S set up Ethan who broke through the middle to score Tavistock's second try.

Surging runs by both wings Lily and Charlie took the ball upfield early in the second half and Alex came within inches of scoring. The front row of Rory, Callum D and Harry dominated the scrums and the whole pack , playing superbly as a unit , continued to provide excellent ball which enabled the backs to score two further tries to give Tavistock a comfortable victory.

Teignmiouth U11s 42

OKEHAMPTON applied early pressure and the large crowd hoped for another game like last week however, it was not to be.

Teignmouth gradually came back into the game and despite some heroic tackling from full back Jack Raymond scored three converted tries to lead 21-0 at half time. The second half continued in a similar manner with Okehampton looking lethargic and allowing the opposition half backs far too much time and space to boss the game.

Fly half Daniel Thorne finally attacked the opposition showing his pace and power to drive through and score Okes first try which he converted. Teignmouth replied with a converted try of their own. Joe Mawle was on hand to score the second try after a strong run from centre Finn Fallon-Clarke which Daniel Thorne converted. The Teignmouth backs kept their composure and scored two further converted tries to complete the comprehensive win. Patrick Beacom and Jack Raymond had strong games but were unable to lift their team mates this week.

Sidmouth U10s 15

Okehampton U10s 5

THE young Okes slipped to a second successive defeat against a well-organised Sidmouth team.

Once again the side started the game in a state of collective slumber and soon found themselves 10 points behind.

They then started to rouse themselves and began to defend with true purpose and tackles flew in from Alfie Gillespie, Jack Ogbourne, Adam Wonnacott and others.

The second period began much more brightly and with a steady supply of ball Gregory Daniel was able to shake off a number of would-be tacklers to bring Okehampton to within a score.

That was as good as it got however and Sidmouth scored their third try shortly before the end to seal a deserved win.

In the second game Okehampton started in the perfect fashion with Gregory Daniel again crosssing the whitewash in the opening minutes. It looked as though the lead had been doubled shortly before the interval as Alfie Gillespie galloped free only to get carried away and ground the ball over the dead ball line!

After the break Okehampton continued to dominate and eventually there were scores for the industrious Leon Horn, with a brace, and Jack Ogbourne with a classic winger's try to give Okehampton a 20-5 victory.

Defensively, the side continued from where it had finished the first match with several perfectly-timed, robust tackles being made.

Okehampton U9s 15

THE final score belied the run of this match, which was closely contested by the visiting Oke side. The first 10 minute quarter saw Okehampton dominate in terms of territory but they were unable to translate this into any tries.

A good early tackle from Tom Michie stopped Sidmouth but eventually they proved too strong and struck with a quick break away to go into the lead.

It was pleasing to see Kai Middleton back in form, working well at scrum half and chasing down his opposite number at all opportunities. Continued hard work by all of the team meant that more ball was won, resulting in two tries in the second quarter for Dai Chi.

The Okes held their nerve against a strong Sidmouth side and managed to get the ball wide to George Dickinson who flew down the wing to dive over the line for a well earned try.

This really was a solid performance from Okehampton, and despite losing, was probably the best they have played as a team this season. Oke player of the match George Dickinson for his efforts in both attack and defence.

THE Oke players showed great tenacity and self discipline to battle through to win a hard fought match.

Ben Wharton led charge with six for the Okes scintillating tries carving the home side apart with Joshua Burgoyne (1) always on his shoulder, with both players showing great running lines.

Will cunningham (2) Harry Laing-Taylor (2) Jake Laing-Taylor, Saul Holliday, Daniel Tomkies (1) and George Cox attacked at every opportunity.

The Okes took a while to get their defensive tagging lines, but when in the groove Liam Daintree, Joshua Burgoyne, Will Cunningham, Charlie Glanville, Ben Wharton and particularly Daniel Wonnacott broke down several Sidmouth attacks.

The Okes played by the home sides tactics over a big pitch but acquitted themselves well, determined not to be beaten.

Sidmouth U7s 7 tries

Okehampton U7s 12 tries

OKEHAMPTON U7s made the long trip to Sidmouth this weekend and were rewarded with a deserved win.

James Fishleigh captained the Okes against a Sidmouth team that had been unbeaten this year. The Okes got off to a great start and found themselves leading six tries to three at half time with Joe (3),Tom (2) and Jay all crossing for well deserved tries.

With the sun shining bright and the team playing well the Sidmouth team could not keep up with an Okehampton team that continues to get better and better.

The second half continued in the same manner as the first and the Okes scored a further six tries Dillon (2), Oliver, Jay, Tom and Jacob to Sidmouth's four. The Okes recent wins reflect the effort they have been putting in to improve their performance.
