A PLUCKY Jack Russell terrier has received Okeford Veterinary Centre's Braveheart Award for July 2012.
Junior the Jack Russell was out with his owners, enjoying an evening walk when he discovered an adder, which bit him under the chin.
He was rushed into the practice with a big swelling under his chin, and was immediately started on a dosage of intravenous steroids and adder anti-venom. Within two hours, he showed a drastic improvement, and was kept overnight.
One week later, Junior was back to his normal self, with the swelling having completely disappeared. Prompt action by his owner and the correct medication prevent permanent damage, and preventing a blockage of Junior's airway.
He is now back at home.
