Horrabridge Rangers U15s 8

Hooe Rovers U15s 2

AFTER a period of pressure on the Horrabridge goal, Hooe forced a corner. The corner kick was well flighted to the far post where a Horrabridge defender diverted the ball into his own net. Horrabridge soon came back when Bradley Johns coolly slot the ball home for his first goal for the club.

Josh Broughton started this game six goals short of his 100th for the club. He made some well timed runs down the left flank only to be thwarted by the post and goalkeeper who made some outstanding saves in the first half.

After Hooe regained the lead Horrabridge stepped up a gear. After some good midfield passing, Martin Hoar who was playing in the centre of midfield delivered a well-timed pass to Josh Broughton who finally beat the Hooe keeper. This gave Horrabridge the impetus to finish the stronger team in the first half. Substitutes saw Soloman Cox and Sam Grindell joining the action and the two neatly linked up when Soloman's header from Sam's cross was excellently saved by the keeper. Just before the break, Robert Pearce gained possession from a tackle in midfield which allowed Jordan Eales to feed a lovely ball over the top of Hooe's defence for Josh Broughton to evade his marker and give Horrabridge a 3-2 half time lead.

At the start of the second half, Horrabridge quickly increased their lead when Josh Broughton again picked up a through ball from Jordan on the left; this was soon followed by Josh Broughton to net his fourth goal.

Soloman Cox then ran into a good position in the Hooe box to prod home Horrabridge's next goal. Apart from set pieces, the Horrabridge defence had stood firm and in control with excellent performances from Goalkeeper Dan Timmins, making his 100th appearance, Adam Cowan-King, Josh Bainbridge, Jack Harrison and Jon Brimble.

Horrabridge were well on top with ten minutes to go. Good work by Sam Grindell on the right wing played Josh Broughton in for his fifth goal before Josh grabbed his sixth and his 100th in league and cup games for Horrabridge. After the game Dan Timmins was presented with a certificate marking his 100 appearance for the team and Josh Broughton was congratulated for reaching his 100th goal.

Tamerton Foliot 4

Tavistock Thistles 0

BOTH teams were fairly equally matched. Thistles applied the pressure early on in the game, but failed to capitalise on their many chances. The few chances that Tamerton had in the first half were mopped by superb defending from Dean Lambert and some great saves from keeper Roger Blandford.

In the second half, crosses flew in from either side but Thistles failed to make these chances pay. Tactical changes saw James Scrivener brought back into centre-midfield from upfront. Tamerton then took the lead so Thistles had to chase the game, leaving themselves open at the back. This allowed Tamerton to score three more before the final whistle.

There were good displays from Kieran Calvert, Ollie Scanlan and Jordan Quin.  Outstanding performances came from Roger Blandford, James Scrivener, Dean Lambert and Mikey Henderson.

THISTLES U14s had no fixture this weekend, so as a Christmas treat they went to watch Plymouth Argyle.  This trip was organised by the manager, Sue Jarman.

Throughout the season  Nicola Bradley and Marion Stenhouse have worked hard selling refreshments and running a draw and the money raised subsidised the event.

The team would like to thank Martin Harris and their coach Tony who surprised them with Argyle books at the match.  They would also like to thank everyone at the Plymouth Argyle Club for their hospitality.  Thanks also to the parents who transported the team to watch the match.

An enjoyable afternoon was had by everyone and the team look forward to their next social event.

Any boy in year nine who is interested in playing football is welcome to come along to a training session at Tavistock Astro All Weather Pitch, Wednesday evenings 7pm-8pm as Thistles are looking to strengthen their squad.  Tel Sue 01822 616557 or Gail 01822 870405.

Ilfracombe U14s 8

Okehampton Argyle U14s 0

THE Okes first game in five weeks ended in a disappointing defeat.

The harsh final scoreline does not portray the way in which Argyle played, their best efforts unrewarded and Ilfracombe fortunate to find themselves 6-0 up at halftime.

Following the break Oke proceeded to play great football, creating some good scoring opportunities but their poor luck continued as the home side scored two further goals.

Surely Argyle will achieve some more positive results in the future if they continue to play in this determined manner.

Oke Argyle U13s 5

Crediton Saints U13s 1

OKEHAMPTON got back to playing football after a long break and were determined to put on a good show.

They started brightly and took the lead when a well worked goal was finished off by Ben Bickle. The second soon followed with a good corner by Tallan Burns superbly headed in by Lewis Taylor.

Saints got a goal back when a mix up in the defence allowed their striker through to score. This did not knock Okehampton as they went up the other end with a well worked passing move allowing Liam Alford to sprint through the defence and calmly slot the ball into the back of the net.

A great individual goal from Ollie crimmins made it 4-1.

Another great team effort allowed Ross Voaden to knock in the fifth and final goal of this entertaining game.

This was a good solid team performance with the defence in great shape. Players of the match Liam Alford and Lewis Taylor

Torpoint  U12s 2

Tavistock Thistles  U12s 1

SECOND place in the league Torpoint took an early lead followed closely by a second from a well hit free kick.

If there was not was some fine defending from Thistles' Henry Dandy and a clearance off the line from Jordan Westlake, after a fine save from Lee Horwood, the half time score could have been far worse.

After a half time Thistles came out fighting, putting in some fierce tackles and having a generally better attitude overall.

Billy Walker was denied a goal after a great strike and  it was only a matter of time before Thistles scored. A Morgan Warnett corner was put away by Dylan Metcalf. This set up a nail biting finish, with Thistles dominating the second half.

AFC Plympton U13s 1

THISTES started this season with a 5-1 defeat away to AFC Plympton so the return game would be a good indication of the progress Thistles are making.

Thistles dominated from the start and played some delightful football with lots of possession. Only some outstanding saves by the Plympton goal keeper kept Thistles from scoring.

Finally the pressure proved too much for Plympton and player of the match Toby Scanlan opened the scoring with a well taken goal. Ben Backway got a second five minutes later.

After half time Thistles anticipated a fight back from Plympton and attacked strongly with the reward of an outstanding début goal scored by Tom Warren.

Another goal from Scanlan looked to have the game won but Plympton then scored a soft goal.

That goal sprung Thistles into action and they replied just one minute later with another well worked goal scored by Scanlan. A minute after that Scanlan scored his fourth.

Keyham Kolts U14s 19

Tavistock Thistles U14s 1

THISTLES travelled to Keyham with only eight players available but despite the score the Thistles players pulled together and deserve credit for their team spirit.

Their player of the match was awarded to Josh Monger who worked extremely hard in goal and Dan Allan put away one goal for Thistles credit.
