ON Saturday, despite some evil weather, Okehampton Golf Club course stood up well and allowed the July Medal to be played. Winner of division 1 was Matt Milford with a net 64 from, in second place, Chris Pike with a net 68. Third was Mark Wonnacott with a net 69. Division 2 was won by Phil Hobbs with a net 67 on the back nine from Colin Sturgess also with a net 67. Third was Graham Milford with a net 68. Division 3 was won by Martin Horn with a net 63 from Paul Ayris with a net 65. Third was Pete Grimley with a net 68. The ladies' section held their July Medal last Wednesday and the silver division was won by Penny Deakin with a net 70 from Cherry James who had a net 71. Third was Marcia Jones with a net 72. The bronze division was won by Mary Keir with a net 68 followed by Val Steer with a net 74 on the back nine from Janet Hatch who also had a net 74. The 9-hole stableford competition was won by Shirley Reddaway. The ladies' league match against Dartmouth at home was won by Okehampton 6-0. On Sunday, ten mixed teams vied to qualify for the 'Douglas Bader" competition and the winners were Malcolm Hooper and Cherry James with Eileen and Ray Piper coming second. Last week's club championship played over 36 holes ended with a tie between Jon Mansell and Jamie Cummings; both had rounds of 69 and 70 gross. In the 18-hole play-off the winner with a gross 73 was Jamie Cummings. Colin Cornwall won the Stuart Wilson Trophy over 18 holes.
