IN A career spanning more than 40 years, American-born singer and song-writer Julie Felix has known many ?firsts?. She was the first folk singer to be signed up by a major record company (Decca) and to perform to a full house at the Royal Albert Hall. She was the first resident folk artist to appear on a prime-time television show in the UK and the first to have her own colour entertainment series on the BBC. She was also the first popular singer to take part in a musical programme in Westminster Abbey (for the 900th anniversary celebrations there). Almost as well-known for her work as a peace activist as she is for her distinctive singing voice and powerful song-writing, Julie Felix has given concerts all over the world in aid of a variety of causes, including social justice, refugees and the clearing of land-mines from war-zones. As part of her Bright Shadows tour of the UK, Julie Felix will perform at The Wharf, Tavistock, at the beginning of July, when she will sing a ?very personal? selection of her best-loved numbers.
