SCHOOLS in West Devon could get the chance to share in a new £400,000 Jubilee Fund designed to help pay for small-scale schemes to improve school life.
The money is part of Devon's settlement from the Government to help improve the general environment of the county's schools.
It can be used to help improve the delivery of the curriculum, help school organisation or improve morale and motivation.
Schools across Devon will be able to bid for up to £25,000 to add to their own funds to pay for specific projects which have already been highlighted as requiring action.
The Jubilee fund is the brainchild of Devon's executive chairman for schools, John Hart.
'Some years ago we had a similar project called Operation Albert which was designed to fund projects aimed at improving buildings dating from the Victorian era.
'I hope this Jubilee Fund will be as successful as Operation Albert was and will allow schools to undertake smaller projects that need to be done but would not necessarily be covered by our mainstream building programme,' he said.
Mr Hart said even comparatively small amounts of money could make all the difference to the life of a school, not only for pupils, but for teachers and staff as well.
The proposal will go before Devon County Council's executive committee for approval on Tuesday, March 19.
