AFTER undergoing two brain operations in the last two years, Josie Alderton from Calstock is planning to take part in the London 10k run in July to raise money for brain cancer research. The 24-year-old Cardiff University student has entered the event as part of her determination to increase her strength and live as full a life as possible. Josie, who plans to get married this year and qualify as a doctor, had radical surgery to remove a low grade brain tumour last year after she was told she could be paralysed in five years if doctors did not operate. Since the operation Josie has been cycling and circuit training in a bid to get her fitness back, and a scan last October revealed the tumour had not grown back. Her mother Karen, who raised more than £6,000 in July 2006 by walking the north coast of Cornwall from Bude to Land's End for the Astrofund charity which Josie is also supporting, said things were going very well. 'The scan looked better than after Josie's first surgery and she is feeling very well — she has been left with a strange sensation down her left side but she is not letting it stop her from doing anything.' This will be the first time Josie has ever run this kind of distance and if anyone would like to help her and her housemate reach their target of £500 then please visit their webpage on http://www.justgiving.com/">www.justgiving.com/ josieandcharlie
