Tavistock thirds v Buckland
ON a belter of a batting wicket Buckland looked to dictate to the Tavistock attack from the word go.
It was not a good day to be a bowler but despite this the Tavistock attack stuck to the task with the pacy Steed causing problems for Buckland openers.
Tom Rogers pressed on with good support from Waterhouse (25). With 112 on the board at the halfway stage Rogers played some controlled big hitting.
However, Tavistock started to make some inroads into the Buckland order with Lee, Folley and Chidzoy picking up wickets but try as they might they could not dislodge Rogers.
Young Mason bowling a nice 6 over spell for only 16 runs, which helped put a slight brake on the Rogers run machine. With the last over bowled Rogers was still there on an unbeaten 110 and with it a formidable 224 for 6 for Buckland.
After tea Tavistock needed a good start, however this failed to materialise as Buckland opening attack of Harris and Osborne bowled with piety.
Having been pinned down for 10 overs skipper Chidzoy took the 'bull by the horns' and started the Tavistock recovery by pushing things along with a useful 34 runs before falling to Barrett.
With the fall of Dhanjal (20) soon after, it was now two fresh bats at the crease in the form of Colts Jonty Newton and Will Steed.
With only 70 on the Tavistock scoreboard after 20 overs, Buckland could be forgiven for thinking the game was all but in the 'bag', the Tavistock pair however had other ideas.
Batting with a maturity beyond their years they set about the deficit with some intelligent cricket.
Slowly but surely the deficit was reducing and with the Buckland field now set defensively the runs were flowing virtually every ball.
With Buckland showing signs of tiring, the Tavistock pair now upped the anti with some dominant big hitting and finding the gaps in the field at will.
With two overs to spare and a 162 unbroken partnership to boast of, the Tavistock pair had done the job, the unlikely Tavistock victory now complete.
Will Steed ended on 82 not out and Jonty Newton also unbeaten on 66 - this was as fine a partnership from the two young Tavistock batsmen.
Result: Tavistock CC third XI won by 8 wickets.
