THE Fox Tor Café in Princetown has signed up to host its own 'World's Biggest Coffee Morning' in aid of cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support this month.
Dave Openshaw and his wife Abbi have been running the café on Two Bridges Road, Princetown, since May 2010 and will be hosting their first 'WBCM' all day at the cafe on Friday September 30.
Dave said: 'Macmillan is a charity that is close to our family and so we wanted to do something to help raise funds for local people affected by cancer.'
The cafe will be offering home-baked cakes, tea and coffee along with the chance to view work from local artists and a prize draw. Dave added: 'Muddy boots and paws are always welcome at the café and we hope that our customers will come out and support this special event.'
People are urged to hold their own coffee morning in their homes, work places or local community.
Macmillan's fundraising manager for Plymouth, North Devon and Tamar Valley Sian Harris said: 'It's great to have the support of local businesses, such as Fox Tor Cafe.
'We have to raise £1.3-million locally from voluntary donations to support people in Devon and Cornwall affected by cancer. Events such as this one are so important to us.'
The official WBCM?day is Friday, September 30, but Macmillan says it is happy for people to hold events on a day that suits them.
Sian added: 'The great thing about this event is that you can put your own twist on it and make sure it works for you.'
Two million people in the UK are currently living with cancer, and one in three will be diagnosed with it during their lifetime.
The money raised from the event will be used to fund Macmillan's support services for people with cancer and their families.
