TAVISTOCK businesses can take advantage of a free tourism training initiative being rolled out by the town's Business Improvement District (BID) to help deliver world-class customer service to visitors.
Following the closure of the Tourist Information Centre (TIC) in March, BID has introduced the 'Ambassadors Programme' to help businesses deal with questions from visitors and provide a first rate customer service.
The free courses are aimed at Tavistock business owners and their staff. To qualify, each person will be required to attend one course from each of three topics. Once completed, attendees will be rewarded with Ambassador status, receiving a badge and sticker along with further promotion to let visitors know where to find them.
The sessions include: 'Guided Walks' on Monday, September 23 and Wednesday, October 2 from 6pm to 7.30pm (meet in Bedford Square); 'Frequently Asked Questions' on Tuesday, October 15, Monday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 23 from 6pm to 7.30pm at the West Devon Borough Council Kilworthy Park offices; and 'Speed Networking' on Thursday, November 7 and Monday, November 11 from 6pm to 7.30pm at the West Devon Borough Council offices.
Participants also need to complete a 'Benchmarking' session taking place on Wednesday, October 16 to help monitor the success of the course.
Tavistock BID manager, Lisa Wadling, said: 'We have it in the business plan to provide local knowledge training. With the closure of the TIC now is the best time to equip local businesses with information to ensure visitors have a great time and can still find answers to their questions.'
Funding towards the programme has been given from the Town Team along with help and guidance from West Devon Borough Council.
