HUGELY popular soul band Joey The Lips will be back in Okehampton on June 21 at a special event at Okehampton College to forge new links with the community and welcome back former pupils, parents and staff.

The event is open to anyone who is involved with the college — and that extends to pretty much everyone in the community.

All former pupils and staff have received a personal invitation to come along because college principal Chris Powell is keen to keep people up to date with all the latest developments.

'We want to get former students back here, many of whom have very interesting lives, to talk to the current students. It is important to open the kids eyes to the outside world and the possibilities that exist and this is one way of doing it,' he said.

With plans in the pipeline to create a new technology block and new sixth form centre among lots of other project, the college is due to change beyond recognition over the next few years and Mr Powell wants to make sure the whole town is involved.

'From local business people to friends of the college, former governors and parents, we would like to see as many people as we can,' he said.

'Joey the Lips are an outstanding soul band who cannot fail to get everyone up dancing and having a good time so we hope it will be a great night.'

Tickets, priced at £6, are available from Millennium Music in The Arcade, Okehampton.
