Okehampton Columbines Ladies Hockey Club versus Marjohns IIs Columbines 2 Marjons IIs 1 THIS was Okehampton Columbines Ladies? Hockey Club?s last league match of the season. They took a little while to settle with some changes to positions. The absence of some regular players gave the opportunity for Hannah Whiteley to join the forward line and show her mettle which she did in fine style. The young Marjohn team worked in a disciplined way and forced a penalty flick by their effective attacking. This placed Marjohn one goal up but appeared to spur Okehampton on. The play moved into Marjohn?s end and finally a cross from Claire Smith was touched into goal for the equaliser by Debbie Pritchard. More attacking play followed and Sue Stanbury fought her way through the circle with great determination but she could not quite get to the goal. The ball was picked up by captain Jo Stephens who scored putting Okehampton ahead. The pace of the game continued to increase with both sides determined right to the end. There were frantic fights in both goal mouths and whilst the second half provided no goals it provided exciting and spirited play. Okehampton are playing in the Isca Sevens Tournament on Sunday at Exeter University. Their coffee morning will be in the Church Hall on Saturday, March 26.
