I AM pleased to report that the exhibition of photographs by the late Jim Thorington at the new museum in Court Gate, Tavistock, has proved very popular.
Over 250 people have visited during the six days in August 2003 when the exhibition was open to the public. In view of this interest the society has decided to keep the exhibition open on Fridays and Saturdays (10am to 4pm) during September.
I wish to thank the Times for their support which has helped to publicise the exhibition.
In October 2003 it is proposed to replace the present exhibition by one showing photographs of past Goose Fairs. A large number of Jim Thorington?s photographs of the fair will be displayed but we would also like to have some other photographs as well.
So if any readers have interesting pre-1990 photographs showing scenes at past fairs such as fairground equipment, fairground people, children enjoying themselves etc, please will they loan them to us? Their photographs will be scanned and promptly returned to them
The photographs will be used both for display at the exhibition and for adding to our archive of historic photographs.
The new exhibition of Goose Fairs photographs will be open to the public oh Fridays and Saturdays (10am-4pm) from October 3 for the month.
Please will they bring any suitable photographs to the new museum during the above advertised opening times?
Roderick Martin
Secretary of Tavistock and District Local History Society
