A TAVISTOCK man has been braving wind and rain as he pounds the town's streets, as he prepares for this year's London Marathon. Jim Griffiths, 30, will be running the marathon in aid of VICTA (Visually Impaired Children Taking Action). The charity provides support for visually impaired children and their families. VICTA's main aim is to work towards parents obtaining early diagnosis, correct medical treatment and the best social and educational support so that children can reach their full potential. Jim, the internet manager for Tindle Newspapers, has been running with Tavistock Athletic Club every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday since he registered for the London Marathon back in August — the longest distance he has run so far is 20 miles. He has also entered a few races for the club, including Plymouth Hoe 10k and more recently the Bideford Half Marathon where he notched up a personal best of 1 hour 41 minutes. To boost his fundraising efforts, Jim has organised a quiz night and disco at the end of this month at the Ordulph Arms in Tavistock. The event takes place on March 30 at 7:30 until late. The £5 entry includes the quiz, a buffet provided by Duke's Café and the disco.
