THE search is almost over for Dulux Decorator Centres' Apprentice of the Year as the 2013 final draws near — and a Tavistock woman is in the running.

The final, which takes place at Sandwell College, West Bromwich, on June 12/13, sees south west heat winner Jenny Sibley compete against nine other regional finalists.

Jenny, 20, who fought of stiff competition from nine other south west applicants, successfully completed a practical work piece which saw her use a range of skill sets, including wallpapering, stencilling, waterborne glossing and special effects all within a set time.

Jenny, who will be representing City College Plymouth, said: 'The competition was tough, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I'm sure the final will be just as challenging, if not more so I can't wait.'

College lecturer Syd Dart said: 'It's great that Jenny has got through to the final. Not only is this a tough competition where the applicant's skills are truly tested, it 's a very professional and well-recognised competition within the industry.'

The final will be followed by a presentation evening in West Bromwich, where the winner and runners-up will be announced.

Beverley Whitehead, marketing communications manager at Dulux Decorator Centres, said: 'Jenny did an amazing job at the Bristol College heat and we wish her all the best for the final.'

For winning the heat, Jenny collected £100 worth of Dulux Decorator Centres vouchers, received a certificate and a goody bag of decorating materials donated by the company's suppliers.

The final will see the nine regional heat winners and highest runner up compete for the chance to win £1,000 and a variety of other prizes donated by suppliers, as well as a host of prizes for their college for painting and decorating students to use.
