A FIRE engine, police car, combine harvester and articulated lorry are some of the vehicles Okehampton fundraiser Janet Carpenter found herself driving at the weekend, all in the name of charity.

Janet, 58, said she had never had so much fun in her life, when she took part in the Marie Curie Driving Challenge at Westpoint in Exeter.

The challenge gives participants the opportunity to drive all manner of vehicles which they would not normally come across in exchange for raising £200.

Janet said her ambition had been to drive the tank, but as it was the most popular vehicle, by the time her chance came close, the machine had overheated and was taken out of the challenge.

?It was a bit of a disappointment but I had so much fun doing everything else I soon forgot about it,? she said.

?The organisation of the day was brilliant and there were about 2,000 people there taking part and watching.?

The Okehampton resident starting fundraising for Marie Curie several years ago after her brother died from cancer.

?My mother also has leukaemia so I know how it can happen to anyone of us,? said Janet, who raised £279 from the driving challenge.

She has also done a parachute jump, hot air balloon ride and a zip wire from the Citadel in Plymouth, all for the charity and plans to continuing raising funds each year.
