AFTER serving in the British Army and still an active member of the Territorial Army a woman from Horrabridge is looking forward to raising money for a worthy cause close to her heart.
Jane Carroll, 36, who after serving in the Intelligence Corps for nine years, is now a police officer with Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.
A keen runner and active member of Tavistock Athletic Club she will be taking part in the Virgin London Marathon on April 25 on behalf of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
This year, Jane, who is a committee member of the RBL's Crownhill branch in Plymouth, has completed one marathon, five half marathons, a ten-mile road race and road and cross country races in the United Services League.
Jane describes the London marathon as her 'ultimate dream' in terms of running and is proud to run on behalf of the Poppy Appeal.
She is also a volunteer sick visitor at Derriford Hospital where she provides a 'friendly face' to ex-service personnel who are patients there.
'Without early intervention or assistance many ex-service personnel can drift into a cycle of drug or alcohol dependency, debt, violence and criminal behaviour as well as homelessness,' said Jane.
'I am aware of the importance of the welfare work undertaken by the Royal British Legion and know that this comes at a cost so I endeavour to raise funds and the profile of the charity.
'I can assure you I am training hard so please support me in my bid to raise the minimum sponsorship of £1,800. Thank you for helping me help a very good cause.
Roger Garratt, the secretary of the Crownhill branch of the RBL, told the Times: 'Jane is tireless in working to raise funds for the RBL and deserves all the local support she can get.'
